3 Things Your Windows Are Attempting to Tell You

July 19, 2019 0

Your windows do a lot for you and your family — but when they get the worse for wear, they may try to tell you certain things. Obviously, windows can’t literally speak. But they can exhibit certain signs that can speak louder than words. Some of what they say may mean you need to repair something, and some of what they say might suggest that it’s time to consider getting Scarborough, ON replacement windows for your home.

Here’s a look at 3 things your windows are trying to tell you. The question, after you listen to what they have to say, is…what are you going to do about it?

1. “The Wood Frame is Beginning to Swell.”

Are you finding it a bit of a chore to open and close your windows? There are numerous reasons this could be happening. One common reason, assuming the window frame is made of wood, is swelling. And humidity is the culprit if wood frames start to swell. You can remedy this problem by sanding the wood so that the windows more easily open and close. You’ll have to roll up your sleeves, grab some sanding paper, and put a bit of effort into it. But it’s the sort of problem you should be able to tackle — and you can always get someone to do it for you.

2. “Unfortunately, the Window Seal is Broken.”

Are you noticing condensation forming between the sheets of glass? If this is a persistent problem that can’t be cleared up via opening the windows or adjusting the thermostat, then you probably have a broken window seal. When this happens, moisture can seep in and lead to condensation or fog on your windows. This is the sort of problem that needs to be remedied if you want to enjoy the benefits of a multi-pane window. You can either get a new panel or simply replace the window altogether. If in doubt, consult with a replacement window retailer.

3. “You Need to Replace the Weatherstripping.”

Are you experiencing drafts all of a sudden? There are a few things to check. Look at the condition of the window panes. Are they in good repair? Check the weatherstripping. Is it in good condition or is it frayed or damaged? If it’s the worse for wear, replace it. Weatherstripping is a fairly easy thing to replace, so it’s something you can likely do yourself.
