MYTHS ABOUT SLIDING PATIO DOORS

February 09, 2018 0

I vividly remember the sliding patio door my parents had in my childhood home in Brampton, ON. It was the worst. Seriously. It was big and bulky. I never could open it myself without throwing my entire body weight into it because it came off track every time I used it. My dad would always remind me “I wasn’t doing it right”—I needed to “lift it a little and pull it open slowly, and lower it after it got moving.” As long as I lived there, I never did master the opening of the patio door. Further, locking it was another to-do. Again, there was a lift-and-latch motion that had to be performed simultaneously while pressing it hard into the pocket. I’m exhausting just explaining this…

Do you have a sliding patio door like this? Have you encountered one? If so, you’re likely turned off to the idea of ever having another sliding installed again in your home. But, resist the urge to lump all sliding doors into the “do not buy” category. Fortunately, sliding patio doors these days are much better than the one my parents had. Specifically, ones from Brock Doors and Windows right here in Brampton!

What makes Brock sliding patio doors better?

First, they are easy to operate. There is never an excuse to settle for a door that takes “a trick” to operate. Those aren’t safe, by the way; they present a hazard for little hands, and they create a safety issue in the event you need to exit your home quickly or lock your door in a hurry. Further, the options here at Brock are beautiful, versatile, and designed by the top manufacturers in the industry.

Let’s address a few myths

For those of you who’ve experienced tricky, old sliding patio doors, let’s address a few myths you may have accepted as truths, unknowingly:

  • Myth #1: Sliding doors let in the rainwater. Nope. Our sliding doors are tested extensively to withstand the elements. Even the ones with tracks mounted to be flush with the floor are manufactured to withstand high levels of rain and wind.
  • Myth #2: Sliding doors are plain and unattractive. Not true. Of course, you may want to see it to believe it here at our showroom—and that’s ok! Sure, sliding doors from decades ago may have been plain and unsightly, but they’ve come a long way. These days, you can choose multiple panels, various sizes, and even a French sliding door! 2-, 3-, and 4-panel options are available for optimal views!
  • Myth #3: Big panels are difficult to slide. Not the case for quality sliding doors. Again, my parents’ sliding door was old and low quality. Advancements in hardware and the evolution of sliding door tracks have made all the difference.

If you are still unconvinced that a sliding patio door is right for your home, why don’t you give the Brock Doors and Windows showroom a visit and see the difference? We would love to show you a few options and customizations for your sliding patio doors in Brampton, ON and answer any questions you may have!
