3 Signs That You Need to Replace Your Windows

April 22, 2019 0

When is the right time to replace your windows with new windows? It’s never a good idea to hold onto older windows that have reached the end of their shelf life, but if you’re not sure about the age of the windows in your home, there are signs to look out for if you want to know when to get new Burlington, ON windows.

Here are 3 specific signs that, if they manifest themselves, mean that the old windows should be swapped out for new windows.

  • Air Leaking in Around Windows

When you’re inside your home and you walk past your windows, do you feel air seeping in from outside? Can you see the curtains moving even though the windows are locked shut? If weather stripping and caulking don’t make much of a difference, you may want to upgrade your old windows. New double pane or triple pane windows will help to keep outside air from seeping into your residence. Single pane windows, if you have them installed in your home, are nowhere near as good at preventing air leakage. So don’t ignore the problem if you feel air getting past your shut windows. You’ll want to contact a replacement window store to get new windows.

  • Hard to Open or Close

Do you find it difficult to open or close your windows? If there are problems with the hardware, you may need to get new windows. Depending on how old your existing windows are, you may have difficulty finding replacement parts. This is why you may need to simply replace the windows entirely. If your windows can’t be operated properly, you and your family will be at a disadvantage because they might not be able to exit the window in the event of an emergency and might not be able to lock them properly to keep out criminals.

  • Regular Condensation Between Sheets of Glass

If you regularly see condensation or fog between the panes of glass, you may require replacement windows. It’s best to consult with a replacement window retailer and to set up an in-home assessment. It’s perfectly normal to see a bit of condensation on the panes of glass. Normal cases of condensation can usually be remedied by simply opening the window or adjusting the thermostat. It’s only a problem if the fogging or condensation is ongoing.
