NATURAL LIGHT AND YOUR HAPPINESS: 3 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW

September 15, 2017 0

A common theme in homes and commercial buildings today is to create space, to draw the eyes upward, and to increase natural light as much as possible. Builders know this as much as installation companies. So, we see a lot of open concept homes these days. Home goods stores are filled with oversized and high-reaching décor. And, installation companies and builders alike are drawing much business from and ever-climbing demand for new and replacement windows.

At Brock Doors and Windows, we install countless new and replacement windows throughout Brampton, ON. Of course, many of these projects are due to occasional weather damages, prepping homes to sell, and major home upgrade projects. People aren’t solely replacing windows anymore—they’re adding windows, too.

That said, we all love light. There is nothing indoors that is as grand as a landscape or cityscape, a sunrise or sunset, storm clouds rolling in… So, whenever possible, we want to help you bring the most light into your home with our replacement windows!

There are more reasons to increase the amount of light in your home than vanity and trends; there are actual health benefits to increasing the natural light in your home! In general, most know that light = happiness, but we seldom consider our health when we think about light. At Brock, we think about light all the time. Here are some benefits you can consider as you plan your next Brampton, ON window replacement project:

  1. Helps skin produce Vitamin D: this regulates calcium levels in the bones, improves immune system functionality, decreases the likelihood of certain cancers significantly, and regulates various disorders such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sclerosis, arthritis, infections, and cardiovascular disease.
  2. Household efficiency: admit it—you don’t love chores. No one does! Daylight has been touted for its effect on human (and animal) productivity. Internationally accepted scientific research has found that naturally lit environments increase productivity and comfort, as they provide the mental and visual stimulation we need to regulate circadian rhythms—a biological process involving physical, mental, and behavioral cycles in a 24-hour period.
  3. Positive influence on recovery from surgery: in 1984, a scientific research article (published in the American Association for the Advancement of Science) was released regarding patients and their recovery from surgery as positively affected when recovery time was spent in a well-lit room. In fact, Roger Ulrich (researcher) found that patients in hospitals with windows facing trees recovered 8.5% faster than patients facing brick walls. The difference? Natural light.

So, what do these benefits have to do with you, a homeowner in Brampton? Everything! Look around your home and across each room—do your window sizes and placements require you to use artificial light constantly or are you happily and healthily basking in natural light? Do you feel generally unproductive at home or find yourself healing slowly when sick/healing from an injury? Do any chronic diseases run in your family? Assess your life and—at least—consider the following question: are your current windows working for you? Brock is right around the corner and we would love to earn your business—give us a call!
